Wheeling Island Racetrack Gaming Center Construction Underway

As of June 11, 2007, now that the voters in Ohio County approved the casino table games, the Wheeling Island Racetrack is speeding ahead with its preparations for the casino games.

Workers have begun working that day on a new area of the racing tracks that will soon host the poker games. Vice President of Operations at the Racing Tracks, Wayne Soard, commented that the establishment will have slot machines and poker tables and is getting a major renovation now.

Soard commented that they have been constructing the poker area and the upstairs casino area for some time now, hoping that the casino table games bill would pass.

Around 20 poker tables will be placed in the lower level area of the establishment and 43 other casino table games like roulette, craps and blackjack will be placed in the main level of the establishment which is just inside the main entrance.

The construction of the table games building should be complete in 6-8 weeks and the main level of the building should be completed by October 2007. The gaming establishment is spending a total of $13 million for the first phase of the project.

Soard said that they are also scheduling 2 job fairs at the gaming center this week to staff the new gaming area.
